After 13th August 2005 WEEE Directive came into effect, electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) producers who want to import, manufacture and distribute products in the European Union are obligated with take-back and treat their waste collected from the market. To be specific, WEEE Producer responsibilities are summarized as follows
1. Pay the treatment charges
2. Join a producer compliance scheme
3. Provide information to the WEEE compliance scheme
4. Compliance declaration
5. Keep the original documents for 4 years
6. Notify the producer WEEE registration number
7. Put WEEE marking on the EEE products
8. Put in producer ID and manufacturing date
9. Provide 3R dismantling information within a year after product put on the market
Since the green waves come on stronger and stronger, more and more regulations and standards demand dismantling and recycling information:
* WEEE Article 11
* ErP Annex I
* US EPEAT
* Korea RoHS
* IEC 62545 Environmental Information for EEE Products
* Japan Green (JGPSSI)
There are country-specific regulations with regard to the registration of devices placed on the market by EEE manufacturers. 27 EU Member States have 27 different national regulations and collection systems. Companies which need to register their products in a number of countries will find it rather time-consuming to know the ins and outs of registration in each country, not to mention they have to find a suitable compliance scheme to join.
